👁️ Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ40) Raid Guide

The ancient subterranean prison of the Old God C'Thun. This raid is a massive step up from BWL, requiring high Nature Resistance (NR), precise positioning, and heavy consumable usage (Greater Nature Protection Potions).

📋 Pre-Raid Checklist

  • [ ] Nature Resistance Gear: Essential for Princess Huhuran and Viscidus. Tanks: $300+$, Melee: $150-225+$.
  • [ ] Consumables: Greater Nature Protection Potions (GNPP), Free Action Potions (FAP), and Frost Oil (for Viscidus).
  • [ ] Reputation: Farm "Brood of Nozdormu" to unlock Tier 2.5 gear quests.
  • [ ] Mechanics: Ensure everyone has a way to track "Threat" (like TinyThreat) as many bosses here drop or reset aggro.

⚔️ Boss Encounters

1. The Prophet Skeram

The "Split" Boss. Coordination is key to avoid wiping on Arcane Explosions. * The Splits: At 75%, 50%, and 25%, he creates two illusions. Illusions take more damage but hit just as hard. * Strategy: Assign tanks to the left, right, and center platforms before the pull. Kill illusions first. * Mind Control: He will MC players, increasing their size/damage. Polymorph or CC them immediately; do not kill your teammates.

2. Silithid Royalty (The Bug Trio)

Optional. An encounter with three bosses at once. Loot depends on the order they die. * The Order: Usually Vem -> Yauj -> Kri (for easiest kill) or Kri -> Yauj -> Vem (for best loot). * Strategy: Tank them apart. Lord Kri cleaves and leaves poison; Princess Yauj fears and heals; Vem charges and enrages the others when he dies.

3. Battleguard Sartura

The "Whirlwind" fight. Requires heavy crowd control on adds. * Adds: Focus down the three Royal Guards first. They can be Stunned, Feared, and Interrupted. * Whirlwind: Sartura spends much of the fight in Whirlwind, dropping threat and moving randomly. Ranged must spread out; Melee must run out when she spins.

4. Fankriss the Unyielding

A pure DPS check with a tank swap mechanic. * Mortal Wound: Reduces healing by 10%. Tanks must swap at 3–5 stacks. * Spawn of Fankriss: Large worms spawn. They must be killed within 20 seconds or they enrage and one-shot players. * Vekniss Drones: Trash adds spawn constantly; have Off-Tanks or Paladins pick them up for AoE.

5. Viscidus

Optional but highly technical. Requires Frost Damage to freeze. * Freeze Mechanic: Hit him with ~200 Frost attacks (Frostbolts, Frost Wand, or melee with Frost Oil). * Shatter: Once frozen, hit him with ~30 Physical attacks to shatter him into globs. * The Globs: Kill as many globs as possible before they reach the center. The boss's health only drops when globs die.

6. Princess Huhuran

The "Nature Resist" Wall. * The Frenzy: At 30% HP, she enters a Berserk state, firing poison bolts at the 15 closest players. * Soak Rotation: The 15 players with the highest Nature Resistance (usually Melee) must stay closest to her to "soak" the damage while the rest of the raid burns her down.

🔥 The Final Guardians

7. The Twin Emperors

A split-damage fight between a Physical-immune boss and a Magic-immune boss. * Vek'nilash (Warrior): Only takes Physical damage. Needs a Warrior/Druid tank. * Vek'lor (Warlock): Only takes Magic damage. Needs a Warlock Tank with high Shadow Resistance. * Teleport: They swap positions every 30 seconds. Tanks must be ready to grab the opposite twin instantly.

8. C'Thun

The Old God. A two-phase fight where one mistake can chain-react and wipe the raid.

Phase Mechanic Strategy
P1: Eye Eye Beam Chains to nearby players, doubling damage each jump. STAY SPREAD.
Dark Glare A slow-moving 180-degree red beam. If it touches you, you die. Rotate with it.
P2: Body Stomach Random players are swallowed. Kill the two tentacles inside to weaken C'Thun.
Vulnerability When the stomach tentacles die, C'Thun becomes vulnerable for 45s. Pop all CDs.

[!DANGER] Spacing: In P1, if two people stand within 10 yards of each other, the Eye Beam will likely kill at least one of them. Use a "Strict Spread" formation.

💎 Notable Loot

  • Tier 2.5 Tokens: Dropped by Twin Emps, Ouro, and C'Thun.
  • C'Thun's Eye: Starts a quest for a powerful necklace or caster cloak.
  • Dark Edge of Insanity: Iconic 2H Axe with a disorient proc.
